Raising Awareness for PWS Awareness Month: Join the Effort!

May is PWS Awareness Month, a time dedicated to increasing understanding of Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) and supporting the quest for treatments and a cure. The goal is to raise awareness among lawmakers, scientists, public authorities, health professionals, and the general public. PWS is a rare, complex genetic disorder affecting approximately 1 in 15,000 births, leading to severe challenges like childhood obesity, developmental delays, and insatiable hunger that can lead to excessive eating and life-threatening obesity.

How You Can Help:

1. Educate yourself

Equip yourself with vital information to educate others about this complex condition. Understanding PWS will enable better understanding and advocacy for the PWS community.

2. Spread Awareness

Share your knowledge to help others understand PWS.

  • Social Media: Share the FPWR’s daily PWS facts on your social media platforms, use their PWS-themed Zoom backgrounds, and participate in discussions to educate others about PWS.

  • Challenges and Activities: Take part in awareness activities like the PWS Everyday Challenge and share your journey with others using the hashtag #PWSEveryday.

  • 15 ways to raise awareness: Visit PWSA’s 15 Ways to Raise Awareness for more ideas!

3. Fundraise and Donate

Your contributions directly support research and advocacy.

  • Fundraising initiatives: Join fundraising events or start your own to help fund critical studies and clinical trials.

4. Join people worldwide in wearing orange on the last Friday of May to show your support for people with Prader-Willi Syndrome.

Why Your Support Matters

Raising awareness and funds for PWS research can lead to ground-breaking treatments and improve the lives of those affected.
